Chi Nei Tsang Massage – Open up your Belly & Feel the Tremendous Relief

Schedule A Visit Today!

Chi Nei Tsang is a form of treatment focused on massaging the abdomen in a certain manner so as to release restrictions between the various internal organs.

A tense abdomen will have several layers of restrictions. Our practitioner works to release these restrictions from the superficial to the deeper layers. This style of abdominal massage is gentle and nurturing. Once opened up, with increased movement and circulation, your physiology will improve and you will also feel more and more at ease.

  1. In the presence of a nurturing practitioner in a safe environment, your body is able to be open to sensation and feeling. Away from the stressors of life, the abdominal area and the contents within feel safe to be worked on. This feeling of safety is the first step.
  2. The treatment itself lends the body to re-cover parts that have been hidden and forgotten. Much of these hidden and forgotten parts are held in the abdominal area, awaiting the relief of liberation. When physical restrictions are released, the body lends itself to further healing.
  3. As that part of the body opens up, the lymphatic system will naturally activate itself. A well-functioning lymphatic system helps to detoxify and purify your physiology.

What can Chi Nei Tsang do for me?

  1. Improve Reproductive Function – Because Chi Nei Tsang works with the lower abdomen, it is able to help with blood circulation to our reproductive organs. For women who have undergone some level of trauma from medical interventions to the reproductive regions, Chi Nei Tsang abdominal massage can be deeply healing, resulting in the release of visceral restrictions as well as emotions that have been held in for a long time.
  2. Improve Digestive Function – Chi Nei Tsang is helpful if you have upper digestive problems like stomach pain (gastritis), reflux (GERD), bloating and indigestion. People who will benefit from Chi Nei Tsang massage include those who have a bloated abdomen before their menses, or those who habitually feel gassy in the abdomen. Chi Nei Tsang abdominal massage will tone up your digestive organs and improve digestive function.
  3. Reduce Stress and Anxiety – So much tension is held in the abdomen from the stress of life. When this tension is reduced, the benefits are beyond better organ function. We also are able to release pent-up negative emotions we hold in our body.

Why is Chi Nei Tsang being offered at Soma Clinic?

Chi Nei Tsang used to only be offered in wellness retreats in Thailand, and later in resorts all over the world. A few decades ago, after Mantak Chia popularized internal organ chi massage, it became a common feature in wellness retreats, yoga teacher retreats or even tantra TTC retreats (for women trying to conceive).

In these retreats, the main purpose of Chi Nei Tsang organ massage was aid in detox through manual manipulation of the internal organs of the body. There was also some focus on organ health and energy balance within the body.

At Soma Clinic, we take the most beneficial aspects of specific therapies to address the most common issues faced by people living in a city environment like Singapore. We do not have the luxury of time that wellness retreats have. We have only 90mins to make the most of a session, and we do our best to help the person in front of us.

The person may be coming for a host of reasons in addition to issues with their internal organs. It is not uncommon to find emotional problems affecting their organ systems, and this would often result in some blockage of energy.

We still focus on their organ health, which could be digestive issues like bloating, constipation and stomach pain. But some of them find that it helps in other areas because energy blockages are released together with the physical blockages. To some extent, it helps with sleep and can be seen as an anti-ageing massage too!

What are the 3 Types of Bloats?

Bloating is a condition for many of the patients coming in for treatment. Bloating can be due to air, water or fat.

If bloating is due to air, it often comes hand-in-hand with flatulence, which is the passing of air from your rear end. While we often make fun of flatulence or farting, air bloats are indicative of a compromised digestive system.

If bloating is due to water, it is often hormonal in nature. Water bloats may happen during pregnancy and after delivery of your child. But for many women, water bloats are cyclical – they often happen before your period arrives.

If bloating is due to fat, it is caused by dietary excess and a lack of exercise. This is the accumulation of adipose tissue around the tummy and is a sign of insufficient metabolism.

How does Chi Nei Tsang help with Bloating in the Abdomen?

Chi Nei Tsang is able to help with the three kinds of bloats mentioned above.

If you have an air bloat, Chi Nei Tsang abdominal massage is able to activate movement of the digestive tract. When the digestive tract is enlivened, it eliminates waste and toxins as well as air that is lodged within. After the massage, most people coming in with an air bloat leave with a flatter abdomen.

If you have a water bloat, Chi Nei Tsang is able to help improve the metabolism of water in your body. In addition, Chi Nei Tsang massages the areas around your reproductive organs, which improves hormonal function. Women with water bloats may also experience tender breasts and a bloated lower abdomen before your period. If that is you, then Chi Nei Tsang will be able to help.

If you have a fat bloat, Chi Nei Tsang together with Cavitation is able to help in the breakdown and elimination of fat in the abdomen. Lymphatic Drainage is incorporated to help with the clearance and detox.

Who Should Get Chi Nei Tsang?

At Soma Clinic, people with the following conditions benefit the most from Chi Nei Tsang:

  • Bloating in the Abdomen – Air Bloat, Water Bloat, Fat Bloat
  • Menstrual pain / Period Cramps
  • Perimenopausal Mood Swings, Insomnia, Night Sweats
  • Stress and Anxiety
  • Postpartum Weight Gain
  • Constipation and other Digestive Conditions

How does Chi Nei Tsang help with Constipation?

Constipation is a chronic condition for many of the patients coming in for treatment. Some patients manage their constipation by drinking sufficient water and eating an adequate amount of vegetables every day. Others may need to supplement with drinking prune juice or eating more papaya and dragon fruit. There are also those who need to use laxatives to help their bowels move.

Chi Nei Tsang releases restrictions in the lower abdomen, especially as the stool transits from the ascending colon to the transverse colon, drops into the descending colon and the sigmoid colon, and finally exits from the rectum and the anus. There is often restriction and blockage at the sigmoid colon, although the areas of blockage do vary from person to person.

Chi Nei Tsang belly massage is a form of colon massage. It enlivens the intestines and helps to dislodge waste stuck on the intestinal walls. After the massage, most people leave with a flatter stomach.

Chi Nei Tsang helps to release blockage in the upper digestive tract too. Constipation is not always only associated with the lower digestive tract. People coming in to get treated for constipation often suffer from gastroparesis. Gastroparesis is when food is not moving in your digestive tract – think bloatedness and indigestion. Chi Nei Tsang stomach massage clears a bloated tummy and treats indigestion.

Chi Nei Tsang helps to release restrictions near the liver and gallbladder. The liver and gallbladder are organ that help with digestion. Alcohol, anger, frustration or an overly rich diet may compromise liver and gallbladder function. How Chi Nei Tsang helps is by releasing restrictions in the upper right quadrant of the abdomen, resulting in better liver and gallbladder function.

Gentle massage of the liver is extremely helpful to facilitate digestive function.

Chi Nei Tsang relaxes the entire digestive tract. Most people suffering from indigestion, bloating or constipation also come in with some level of stress, worry and disturbed sleep. In fact, stress is a big reason why people suffer from digestive problems.

When there is emotional stress, your entire gut function is compromised, there is reduced peristalsis and it just takes longer for transit and bowel movement. Chi Nei Tsang helps by releasing areas of restriction and by encouraging bowel movement. More importantly, Chi Nei Tsang abdominal massage turns on the parasympathetic nervous system, facilitates vagal regulation and relaxes the entire nervous system.

FAQs

What is the meaning of Chi Nei Tsang?

Chi Nei Tsang is a Chinese term made up of 3 characters. Chi refers to Energy; Nei means Internal; Tsang means Organ or Organs. It is also commonly abbreviated as CNT.

The first two characters Chi Nei references the Energy that is in the body. If this energy courses smoothly throughout the body, all is well. If there is blockage, then there may be some dysfunction.

The last two characters Nei Tsang refers directly to the Internal Organs. Most of the internal organs in our body are accessible via the abdomen area, hence it is an abdominal massage that works with the internal organs.

Why has CNT been associated with Wellness Retreats and Andrew Weil?

It all began with Mantak Chia and his work with energy and the internal organs, which is very much linked to Chinese Medicine. He created CNT therapy so that internal organs of the body would be balanced in relation to one another.

Thereafter, CNT began to be featured in wellness retreats all over the world, and it became even more popular after Andrew Weil’s Center for Integrative Medicine in the USA incorporated CNT as one of its treatments.

Since then, CNT has appeared in yoga teacher trainings (YTTs) as well as fertility tantra TTC retreats all over North America and the rest of the world.

What health advantages does Chi Nei Tsang massage provide to the body?

Here are some ways that the body benefits from the release of blocked, stagnant chi though CNT massage.

First of all, CNT helps with the alignment of the organs, which then helps with health functioning of the individual organs.

In addition, CNT enhances your immune system by increasing the drainage of lymph in the body.

By warding off infection and maintaining bodily health, a robust immune system guards against getting sick.

At the clinic, our focus is on the specific physical complaint you come in for, and this include bloating, constipation, issues with digestion, as well as women’s health issues.

What can we anticipate during and after Chi Nei Tsang (CNT)?

For the first session, the practitioner will usually be providing a stronger treatment.

As such, you may feel discomfort as she presses into areas of restriction. The area of restriction will definitely loosen up during the session as your body relaxes into it. We want you to know that there is a lot to be done during the first session!

If there is substantial detox from the session, you may feel like you need to go to sleep – which you then should because that’s what the body needs!

These symptoms are a normal part of the detoxification process and should go away in a day or two. Continue to consume healthful foods and refrain from overeating after your CNT session.

From the second session onwards, there will usually be less restriction in the superficial layers. For this reason, your practitioner will be able to begin the work of deeper detox, or even discuss with you how she might be able to facilitate the break down of visceral fat.

Chi Nei Tsang: is it holistic?

Practitioners for CNT are trained in a comprehensive approach that takes into account both your physical and mental health. At Soma Clinic, the CNT practitioner will always address the physical symptoms, while treating the body holistically as an interconnection between different organ parts.

What do Chi Nei Tsang treatments entail?

Your CNT session will take place in a cozy, peaceful room. 90 minutes are spent with the practitioner focusing fully on you. A conversation between you and your CNT practitioner precedes the treatment. You have a chance to explain your medical history and any problems you want treated in the present.

On a table created expressly for your comfort, you will lie on your back with your body well-draped, while the practitioner works on you, explaining what she is doing as she is doing it.
